Rochester Arts and Culture Collaborative March Newsletter

Happy spring! The greening of the grass and the cheerful crocuses are certainly the gifts of March.

Updates

  • The Spaces team of RACC will be submitting by the March 31 deadline a proposal for re-use of the senior center as an arts and cultural center.  For purposes of the proposal, an umbrella corporation was formed, the Arts and Cultural Initiative (ACI), from which will come eventually a governing and administrative structure for the center.  Please watch for news about public input to the City Council about this proposal.

  • The Art4Trails event committee is busy planning their opening event taking place the weekend of June 4-5 in conjunction with the Rochester Art Center's 70th birthday bash. The committee is actively seeking arts, cultural and wellness organizations to participate in activities surrounding the Art4Trails opening. If you have not been contacted but are interested in learning more, please respond and you'll get connected.

Community meeting coming up

Please mark your calendars for a community meeting Saturday, April 30, from 3:00-4:30 pm. It will be held at the auditorium of the Rochester Public Library (this is a change BACK - we are unable to meet at the Senior Center April 30)

The primary focus of the afternoon is gathering input on the Public Art Master Plan (PAMP) that is being crafted by the Greater Rochester Art and Cultural Trust with the help of Forecast Public Art in St Paul. Members of the PAMP task force community engagement team will facilitate this portion of the meeting.

This will be an update about the Art4Trails public opening event happening June 4-5. (Check out our Facebook page for the artists selected for the installations)

There will be an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the proposal submitted (and by the time of this meeting under review and discussion by the City Council) for re-use of the Armory/Senior Center into the ACI, a place for artists, cultural groups, and arts organizations to meet, work, rehearse, present, perform, celebrate, and more.

If possible, we hope to have more information or people attending will be able to share information about the status of the Chateau Theater.

It would be great to fill the room with you and your friends and your colleagues, meeting each other, sharing feedback, offering input, asking questions, and getting excited about all the possibilities opening up in Rochester.
